August 31 Meeting: Summary

The Arduino project is going forward as planned. Go to the page "Project Proposal," listed at the top, to read the text of the ASCSM Proposal Form. The form will be submitted on Tuesday.

The TechShop field trip is still pending further information.

Members will be designing club T-shirts. More information about design submissions will be posted later.

The airplane competition is complete. Although most of the "airplanes" struggled to fly, the project was a success. Congratulations to the winning team.

August 31 Meeting: Preview

Because we don't know how many people will return for the second week, we will hold off on submitting the Proposal Form until after the August 31 meeting. To discuss ideas for projects go to the page "Project Proposal" listed at the top.

For the next meeting, we will be voting on the project proposal and making paper airplanes.

Paper Airplanes

Materials: Computer Paper, Poster Board, Hanging Files, Manila Folders, Tape, Wooden Dowels, Paper Clips, Rubber Bands

Last semester, the club worked on a semester long project to build a magnetic levitation train. The project's scope was simply too large: we did not have the expertise, tools, and, most importantly, time. This semester we are aiming for more manageable projects which everyone can be involved in.

August 24 Meeting: Summary, Part 1

The orientation meeting is complete.

Here are some of the results of the survey which 21 people completed in part or full:
1. Members are majoring in a variety of majors, with mechanical engineering being the most popular.

2. 75% of the members have completed some science and/or engineering courses.
3. Most members are interested in gaining experience and knowledge of engineering as well as friends. A few people mentioned a desire to learn about work opportunities, individual sub-fields of engineering, and transfer information. If you are interested in transfer information, speaking with Prof. Laura individually may be best. If you are interested in general information about sub-fields of engineering, this will be covered in ENGR 100.
4. Most members are interested in completing a project with 20% of members specifically wanting a competition style project.
5. There is no limit to how long the club meetings have to be, but the following are members' preferences for when it should end:
